This is my very favorite road. I’m sure there are more beautiful and more scenic roads around but this stretch of road has special meaning for me. This road, Shorewood, is the road that leads up to the last turn onto Crystal Lake and our family’s lake house. After driving 6 hours this road prepares you to arrive on South Shore Drive and the lake. It has magical properties that slow down time and prepares you for the upcoming time spent at the lake. When I ride my bike the 26 miles around the lake this is the last stretch until the last flat mile. You’ve ridden around 20 miles with a lot of hills and tend to overheat but the canopy of this road is a welcoming and cooling refresher with its gentle sloping and rolling hills. Even when the sadness sets in of going back home and the long drive ahead is depressing, this stretch of road starts the trip off with a reminder of the great times spent and of great times to come the next time up north.
